To Helena Day 1 in this section: Straight Creek

After a nice rest and lots of eating in Augusta the Straight Creek looked to be the consensus trail to continue for everyone.
I learned you can change the direction orientation on FarOut to southbound so I am starting my day around mile 236.

A group of five of us rode with Frank the man who runs a little shuttle service. I paid him $20. He let us off at straight creek trail. The trail was pretty straight and level and eventually climbed quite a bit. We entered the Scapegoat Wilderness and a burn zone without blowdowns. It was bleak.

Around 6:30pm there was a spring burbling out of the ground and flat but not bare dirt areas to set up tents. It was a nice area that seemed less deep forest and more almost alpine. Us three older ones, Drop Bear and Sail Cat and me, stopped for the day and the two younger ones, Mowgli and Lotus, pressed on another 2.5 miles.

I feel needy for company. I thought of Shroomer and how a group gravitated around him and they stayed together even though their paces and ages were different. I wished there was a Shroomer for me on this trail.

I ate dinner with Drop Bear and Sail Cat on a little hill where we also tied our bear bags. My feet were sore from walking on the rocks and trying to keep up with Mowgli and Lotus. They were also sore from swelling up in town. They feel on fire on the bottoms.
